Spot Information

Hurst

Tips and Information for kitesurfing at Hurst.

Wind direction:

SW, W

Work West to Sout-Soutwest

Tide:

3h before HT 1H after

Tide is a bit irregular, takes a long time to rise, then empties quickly. Id say it's ideal for 3hrs before and 1hr after high tide. But I still get caught out at neap and spring when it does other weird stuff like double highs.

Parking:

Free, Near the beach

Small parking here: New Ln, Keyhaven, Milford on Sea, Lymington SO41 0QX

See map for more details

Busy summer days you want to be there early for a parking spot

Launching and Landing:

Yellow is the pond, very shallow and only good for around 4-5 hours around high tide, you can launch on top of the dune.

Riding

Check the map below for details:

Blue is the marsh which has really amazing flat water, and it's fairly safe since if you have an accident you can release and rescue on to the back of the spit, but a bit of warning, if this happens it's a LONG stony walk back to the parking.

Orange is the spit. It has glassy flat water to launch on, and then deep safe water immediately downwind. It is probably the best big air spot in the UK

Spot Location

Extra information

For the spit: if you have a mare, and release, you're getting dragged up the solent, super dangerous. I will only kite the spit when there are boats parked up. Very frequently there are schools teaching wingfoiling or kiting who get there by boat, and will be able to help you out in an emergency.

To get to the marsh and the spit from the pond, you have to kite upwind and fairly close to a line of moored yachts, so you have to be very careful, don't hang around in that area. Also be careful of people fishing (they were reports of them throwing rocks at kiters in the past - call the police if this happens)
